Tax Tip #97: Rental Income Does Not Count Toward Social Security

Net rental income from long-term rentals is not subject to Social Security or Medicare taxes. Unlike W-2 wages or self-employment income, your $50,000 in net rental income does not incur the 15.3% FICA tax. This is a major advantage of rental income over earned income.
