Tax Tip #240: Travel Expenses for Out-of-State Property Visits

Airfare, hotel, rental car, and meals (50% for meals) for trips to inspect, maintain, or manage rental properties in other states are deductible. A 3-day trip to check on your rental that costs $1,200 in flights and hotel plus $150 in meals gives you a $1,275 deduction. The primary purpose of the trip must be business-related.
