Tax Tip #75: Use Actual Vehicle Expenses Instead of Mileage

Instead of the standard mileage rate, you can deduct actual vehicle expenses (gas, insurance, repairs, depreciation) multiplied by your business-use percentage. If 40% of your driving is for rental properties and your total car costs are $10,000, you can deduct $4,000. Compare both methods and use whichever gives a bigger deduction.
