Tax Tip #222: Deducting Vacancy-Related Expenses

Expenses incurred while a property is vacant but available for rent remain fully deductible. Mortgage interest, property taxes, insurance, utilities, and lawn maintenance during vacancy months are all deductible on Schedule E. Keep records showing the property was actively listed for rent during the vacant period.
