Tax Tip #132: Deduct Rent Loss Insurance Premiums

Rent loss insurance (also called loss of rents coverage) reimburses you for lost rental income when the property is uninhabitable due to a covered event. The premium is deductible, and the insurance proceeds you receive are taxable rental income. Typical cost is $100 to $300 per year.
