Tax Tip #149: Recourse vs Nonrecourse Loans Affect Basis

Your at-risk basis in a rental property depends on loan type. Recourse loans (where you are personally liable) are included in your basis. Nonrecourse loans from qualified lenders secured by real property are also included for real estate activities, but not for other investments.
