Tax Tip #140: Mixed-Use Property Tax Allocation

If you live in one unit of a duplex and rent the other, you allocate expenses proportionally. In a 50/50 duplex, 50% of mortgage interest, property taxes, insurance, and depreciation go on Schedule E. The personal-use 50% follows primary residence rules on Schedule A.
